Congress is Preparing to Vote on SCHIP Take Action!

Take Action to Expand Denali KidCare
 
Congress is getting ready to vote on reauthorization of State Children¹s
Health Insurance (SCHIP), the federal program that funds Denali KidCare
health insurance for low-income children.  Senate and House negotiators have
agreed on the outlines of a bill that would provide health insurance for an
additional four million children who do not now have coverage.  This would
mean over 10,000 more Alaskan children could covered by Denali KidCare.
Under the emerging bill, $60 billion would fund SCHIP over the next five
years including $300 million for dental care. - $35 billion more than
current spending, but $15 billion less than the House originally wanted.
The funding will come from an increase in the federal cigarette tax.  The
bill reauthorizing SCHIP is scheduled to be voted on as early as Tuesday,
September 24 in the House and shortly thereafter in the Senate. Please use
this opportunity to send your support for SCHIP reauthorization to
Representative Don Young and Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski.  Take
