IN ADVANCE OF JUNE 26th SPECIAL SESSION on SENIORCARE
I just got back from meetings on the east coastand found a note on my desk
that the UAA nursing program donated materials for a survey on SeniorCare,
so recipients can share their thoughts with their legislators. THANK YOU,
UAA Nursing Program!
As you know, June 26th is a very important day for Alaska¹s SeniorCare
program and the 6,700 low-income seniors in Alaska. To show our support
for Alaska¹s seniors, I ask you to not only come to the rally downtown, but
bring additional people with you. If we can DOUBLE or TRIPLE the number of
people we had at the June 14th rally, the message of SUPPORT will come
through loud and clear.
The House floor session will start at 10 am and will be immediately followed
by the Senate floor session.
We checked with the Egan Center about rallying and carrying our signs in
front of the Egan Center. We would told to call the municipality. The
municipality, in turn, referred us to Anchorage Police Department. Anita
with ADP said ³it¹s fine just as long as it¹s on a public sidewalk; we¹re
not blocking traffic or harassing anyone.²
I will be in front of the Egan Center by 8:30 am on Tuesday, June 26th. I¹ll
have the same signs carried at the June 14th rally and I ask Access Alaska
to bring the great signs they made available. If you want to make and carry
your own sign, please do so. If you need any key points for YOUR sign, don¹t
hesitate to contact me via email (I¹ll be on my Blackberry this afternoon)
or via cell at 230-6072.
And if you think you may need to sit down, I suggest you bring a lawn chair.
We had GREAT media coverage on June 14 in fact, the coverage made AARP¹s
national media wire so let¹s do this again for the sake of Alaska¹s
low-income seniors. By doing this, we send a STRONG message to our
legislators that we are holding them accountable.
Spread the word.bring your sign.and we¹ll see you on the sidewalk in front
of the Egan Center next Tuesday morning!
Regards,
Ann Secrest
PS Share this email with folks you know who are concerned about Alaska¹s
low-income seniors.
