Urgent Action Needed NOW to Support Level Funding
 
In the next few days, possibly tomorrow, the Conference Committee for the
operating budget will consider funding for the Division of Behavioral Health
grant line item.  This is the money that funds all state-contracted mental
health and substance abuse treatment programs.  The Senate budget funds
grants at $3.2 million, the same amount authorized for the current fiscal
year.  The House budget funds grants $1 million dollars less than the
current fiscal year.  We need to send a strong message to the Conference
Committee that the loss of $1 million means real cuts in  mental health and
substance abuse treatment services to Alaskans.
